Today their are no Celine rumors..
Celine Dion's Baby Baptized in Montreal MONTREAL (Reuters) - French Canadian pop diva Celine Dion baptized her six-month-old son Rene-Charles on Wednesday in Montreal at a private Catholic ceremony that was preceded by a publicity frenzy that had all the glitter of a Hollywood premiere.
Dion and husband Rene Angelil's arrival by limousine at Notre-Dame Basilica was broadcast on national television after several guests were brought in minibuses. Some 250 friends and members of the family gathered inside Montreal's landmark church while a hoard of photographers and excited onlookers gathered to watch her arrival. Montreal officials had to close off the streets in the city's historic district, clean them and roll out a blue carpet at the entrance to the church chapel. Dion, 33, is currently on a three-year sabbatical from show business as she takes care of her infant son, born six months ago. The popular singer has said she will make a comeback in a musical in Las Vegas in 2003. The Quebec-born artist is famous for such hits as "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie "Titanic." She gave birth to her first child on Jan. 25. The baby was conceived through in vitro fertilization in New York. The singer was recently named the world's best-selling female artist, with fans around the world snapping up more than 125 million albums worldwide in the 1990s. Dion and Angelil, who is also her manager, were married in a striking ceremony in Montreal in 1994. He has managed Dion's career since she began singing as a teenager in the town of Charlemagne near Montreal

Baptism spurs vehicle ban near basilica
DEBBIE PARKES

It may be a private affair, but it's a public event. At least that's the way the city's public works department describes the baptism of Rene-Charles Angelil. Streets will be closed around Notre Dame basilica in Old Montreal for this morning's baptism of the son of pop star Celine Dion and her manager husband, Rene Angelil. But not out of any desire for favouritism, said Andre Lessard, head of the public events section of the department. Rather, it's a matter of public safety, he said. The same rules apply for any other event likely to attract large crowds - whether it be the funeral of a public figure or a visit from the pope. "It always depends on how much public interest an event will elicit," Lessard said, explaining his division studies each case before making a decision. And while the private security firm hired by Dion and Angelil was courteous enough to advise the city in advance of the baptism plans, the family was under no obligation to do so, Lessard added. Sometimes the city finds out about such things through news reports, he said. Streets inside the area bordered by St. Laurent Blvd. and St. Francois Xavier St. to the east and west, and Notre Dame and St. Paul Sts. to the north and south, will be closed to motor vehicles from 8 a.m. to noon, Montreal Urban Community police say. As well, the public works department is putting up barriers to keep cars off St. Sulpice St., between Notre Dame and St. Paul, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lessard said. Most of the costs related to the street closings will be paid through the police's and city's regular operating budgets, police and Lessard said. But the city will bill the wealthy parents for the permit to close St. Sulpice St. and the lost revenue from nine parking meters - a grand total of .

Celine Dion's son fusses during baptism at ornate Montreal chapel

MONTREAL (CP) - Celine Dion's infant son made quite a fuss during his baptism Wednesday in front of about 250 family members and guests. "I think that little Rene-Charles wasn't cut out for a big ceremony like that because he cried quite a bit," said Michel Jasmin, a Quebec television host and family friend. The 40-minute ceremony was a bit long for the baby, Jasmin told RDI, Radio-Canada's all-news network. The baptism at a chapel adjoining the grand Notre-Dame Basilica took place six months to the day after the birth of Rene-Charles. He had to be undressed to be immersed in the baptismal font and then dressed again, Jasmin said. It was a bit trying for him, he said. The baptism followed the Eastern rites of the Catholic church. Little Rene-Charles received a combined baptism, first communion and confirmation. He was baptised as a Greek Melkite Catholic, the same as his father. Those with Lebanese and Syrian roots, like Angelil, are often members of the Melkite Church, whose rites are similar to those of the Greek Orthodox Church. Hence the words Greek Melkite. Jasmin said even though the baptism was long for the baby, it was touching to watch his parents comfort him. He said Dion took the child in her arms and "almost instantly he stopped crying." The couple arrived to cheers from fans who gathered outside the chapel. The family, who came by limousine, arrived almost 10 minutes late for the baptism. Dion, wearing a stylish grey pantsuit with pearls, seemed a bit overwhelmed when she stepped out of the vehicle. She put her hand up to her neck and then said hello and thanks to the crowd. Angelil was carrying Rene-Charles, who was wearing a long white gown and cap. Angelil paused and turned to allow the crowd to get a good view of the baby and Dion then joined them. They paused again to wave to fans and give them another good look at their son. Fan Pierre Leblanc arrived at 8 a.m. to get a good spot."I'm here because it's Celine Dion," said Leblanc, 57, of Montreal. "She's the biggest singer in the world and she's a Quebecer. I think she well represents Quebec to the rest of the world."Leblanc said he doesn't see anything wrong with hype surrounding the event. He said all the publicity is normal for an international celebrity like Dion. Guests started arriving at the 250-seat chapel, its entrance decorated with flowers, just after 9 a.m. Guy Carbonneau, assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens, was among guests to the private ceremony. Quebec television personality Julie Snyder, now based in Paris, arrived with French television host Michel Drucker. Snyder described Dion as "super motherly" and "very fulfilled" with her child.
